Metamorphic Window Seat/jardiniere

Description

Circa 1880. A late Victorian/Aesthetic movement metamorphic window seat and jardinière. The rectangular shaped ottoman stool with red velour upholstered top which is removable, inside is a rectangular metal waterproof liner which is removable. Beneath the seat pad is a stylish moulded fore-edge with a concave section beneath, the front in amboyna with scratch carving with foliate designs which has been gilded, the corners with carved pillars with blind fretwork quarter brackets on the front. The center section with a small panel with gilding and a small flower head with further beadings beneath, with similar patterns on the sides, the back is plain. All resting on four squat turned feet with brass and brown porcelain castors beneath.
