How do I care for antique wooden dining chairs?

Feed the dry timber periodically with a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the grain and protect the surface from daily wear. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and severe humidity fluctuations to prevent the wood from splitting or joints from loosening.

Can I mix these chairs with a modern table?

These vernacular wooden seats bring warmth and texture when paired with contemporary glass, metal, or modern wooden dining tables. Their neutral tones and organic shapes complement minimalist interior styles. Ensure the seat heights align comfortably with the underside clearance of your modern table before arranging a full set.

Are wheelback chairs comfortable for long dinners?

The ergonomically hollowed elm seats provide surprising comfort during extended meals without requiring upholstered cushions. The raked spindle backs offer supportive recline angles. Adding loose seat pads made from natural fabrics can increase comfort for prolonged seating if desired.

What is the difference between a side chair and a carver?

Side chairs are compact dining seats without armrests, designed to tuck neatly around the sides of a table. They utilise simpler frames built for efficiency in numbers. Carvers feature integrated armrests for added support and traditionally occupy the head positions at a dining table.
