What is a signet ring used for?

Traditionally, these rings carried a family crest or monogram carved into stone or metal to stamp wax seals on correspondence and legal documents. Today, they are worn primarily as fashion statements or sentimental heirlooms that display personal initials.

How can I date my ring?

British hallmarking systems stamped on the inner band provide specific letters and symbols that correspond to exact assay years. Stylistic cues, such as the heavy geometric shoulders of mid-century pieces or the delicate engraving of Edwardian examples, also help determine age.

Are these rings suitable for daily wear?

Solid gold bands designed with flush or bezel-set stones generally withstand everyday use very well. Lighter settings or softer materials like turquoise require more careful handling to preserve the stone and metal.
