How do I identify a triple pedestal table?

Look for a long dining table supported by three distinct vertical columns or pedestals rather than four corner legs. This construction allows the table to extend significantly in length while maintaining structural balance across the centre and ends.

What is a kneehole desk?

A kneehole desk is a freestanding pedestal desk featuring a central recessed space for sitting, flanked by two banks of drawers. These pieces often include useful writing slides and fitted stationery compartments within the top section.

How do I care for mahogany surfaces?

Maintain waxed mahogany surfaces by applying appropriate furniture wax sparingly and buffing with a soft cloth to preserve the natural lustre. Keep timber furniture away from direct sunlight and excessive heat sources to prevent the wood from drying or cracking.

Are Edwardian pedestals different from Georgian ones?

Georgian and Victorian pieces tend to feature heavier proportions and rich, dark timber finishes, reflecting the classic cabinet-making standards of the 18th and 19th centuries. Edwardian items often display lighter scales, occasional revival styling, or alternative decorative accents such as satinwood crossbanding.
