This design enabled readers to reach a large collection of books from a single seated position. They range in size from low tabletop versions to large floor standing Edwardian oak models.

Where should I place library furniture?

These pieces suit studies, home offices and living rooms where books and writing materials require dedicated storage. Freestanding open bookcases and revolving stands work well against walls or beside armchairs. Ensure timber items avoid direct heat sources and strong sunlight to protect the polish and leather surfaces.

How do I identify an Edwardian bookcase?

Edwardian bookcases frequently utilise oak or inlaid mahogany, often featuring glazed doors or revolving multi-tiered designs. The construction reflects early twentieth century manufacturing standards while retaining traditional proportions. Look for clean lines, subtle satinwood stringing and functional brass hardware typical of the period.
