How do I care for a vintage gemstone bracelet?

Store each piece separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent softer stones from scratching harder gems like diamonds. Avoid wearing them while swimming, gardening, or applying cosmetics. Clean them gently with a soft cloth, keeping antique pieces away from ultrasonic cleaning machines and harsh chemical dips.

Were these bracelets worn daily in the past?

Many Victorian and Edwardian pieces served as everyday adornments, while elaborate platinum and diamond Art Deco creations were reserved for evening events. Sturdier gold designs with integrated safety chains accommodated regular wear. Heavier gem-set bangles from the 1940s and 1950s also saw frequent daytime use by their original owners.

How can I tell an Edwardian bracelet from a Victorian one?

Victorian bracelets often feature heavier yellow or rose gold, high-carat settings, and rich stones like almandine garnets, amethysts, and citrines. The motifs tend to be robust, incorporating padlocks and gate links. Edwardian pieces shift toward lighter platinum and yellow gold, prioritising airy filigree, seed pearls, light blue zircons, and delicate diamond accents.
