Where should I place a two seater?

These compact settees suit bedrooms as end-of-bed seating or fit comfortably into smaller living rooms and hallways. Their modest scale allows them to function as accent seating in tighter architectural spaces. Positioning them away from direct sunlight protects delicate fabric and wood finishes from fading over time. They work well paired with small occasional tables to create distinct conversation areas.

Are these settees comfortable for daily use?

Most of these antique and vintage pieces were constructed for formal reception rooms rather than heavy daily lounging. Their seat depths and back angles reflect historical seating preferences of the period. Modern users often employ them for reading or conversational seating where sustained multi-hour lounging is secondary. Adding loose cushions can adjust the seating posture to suit individual preferences.

What is canework on these seats?

Canework involves weaving peeled rattan cane strands through drilled holes in the wooden frame. This technique creates a durable, lightweight panel used for backrests and seats. It allows air circulation through the furniture piece, which was particularly valued in warmer climates. Maintaining cane involves keeping the material clean and lightly hydrated to prevent brittleness.
