How do I care for a target ring?

Clean these delicate settings gently using warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding harsh ultrasonic cleaners that might loosen vintage stones. Regular professional checks ensure the intricate claws holding the concentric tiers remain secure. Store the piece individually in a lined box to prevent the hard gemstones from scratching neighbouring jewellery. Minimise exposure to chemicals, lotions, and household detergents during daily wear.

Can these rings be resized safely?

Most gold and platinum examples can be adjusted by a skilled bench jeweller experienced in antique restoration. The process requires care to protect the geometric shoulders and any channel-set stones near the band. Consult an specialist before altering the shank, as extreme size changes risk distorting the concentric halo or stressing older metal. Gradual adjustments preserve the structural integrity of the delicate gallery.

What defines the Art Deco style?

Art Deco design embraces clean geometric lines, bold symmetry, and stark colour contrasts inspired by machine age architecture. This aesthetic replaced the flowing organic curves of the preceding Edwardian period. In target rings, this translated to sharp concentric circles, square borders, and the prominent use of platinum paired with calibré-cut rubies, sapphires, or emeralds.

Are these rings suitable for daily wear?

These historical jewels withstand regular wear provided they receive proper treatment and periodic inspection by a professional restorer. Platinum and 18ct gold offer sufficient durability for everyday use. Owners should remove the jewellery during rigorous physical tasks, gardening, or swimming to protect the antique settings and delicate millegrain edges from impact.
