How do I mount two arm candle sconces?

Most wall lights require secure fixing to wall studs or appropriate masonry anchors due to the weight of cast metal or carved wood. If the sconce has been converted for electrical wiring, a qualified electrician should handle the wall connection. Position the fixtures at eye level or flanking a central mirror to achieve the correct decorative balance in a room. Ensure the weight of the piece is fully supported independently of the electrical junction box.

Are these sconces wired for electricity?

The inventory includes items retaining their original candle-only format alongside pieces that have been rewired for electric illumination. Listings specify whether a piece functions as a candleholder or incorporates electrical fittings. Buyers intending to use electricity should check the wiring status in the description. Rewired examples bring modern convenience while maintaining the antique housing.

How do I clean antique brass and bronze?

Dust the surfaces gently with a soft, dry cloth to prevent the accumulation of grime in the chased recesses. Avoid harsh commercial metal polishes that can strip away historic gilding or patination. Preserving the original surface finish maintains the character developed over a century or more. Professional conservation is advisable if deeper cleaning becomes necessary.

How do I date an antique wall sconce?

Dating relies on stylistic markers such as the symmetrical restraint of Regency designs compared to the flowing asymmetry of Rococo Revival pieces. Material analysis, including the type of brass casting and screw threads used, also points to specific eras like the Victorian period or the nineteen-thirties. Cross-referencing the construction techniques with known period styles clarifies the age of the fixture. Many pieces carry stylistic traits from earlier revivals rather than original manufacture dates.
