How do I choose the right size lantern?

Consider the vertical clearance and the floor area of your entrance space before selecting a hanging fixture. Larger vestibules accommodate heavy multi-light chandeliers or expansive lanterns without overwhelming the room. Measure the height of your ceiling to ensure the drop of the chain or mount leaves adequate headroom for passage underneath.

Are these lanterns wired for modern electricity?

Many period fixtures arrive adapted for contemporary electrical standards while retaining their historic external components. Internal wiring is updated to support standard modern bulbs safely. Check individual descriptions regarding rewiring status to determine if professional electrical installation is required upon delivery.

What is the difference between brass and bronze?

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, typically displaying a brighter, golden-yellow tone when polished. Bronze is an alloy primarily of copper and tin, offering a deeper, warmer metallic hue. Both metals appear frequently across these listings, often enhanced with gilt finishes for added visual weight.

How do I clean glass and metal frames?

Dust glass panels regularly with a soft, dry cloth to maintain clarity and prevent the accumulation of grime. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that might strip historic gilding or patination from the metal. Use specialised metal cleaners sparingly and only on unlacquered brass or bronze surfaces according to their specific requirements.
