Where should I place a rustic oak bench seat?

These benches suit narrow hallways, boot rooms, living spaces or dining areas where long seating is practical. Garden variants function outdoors on patios or lawns, while indoor forms serve as window seats or hallway storage solutions.

How do I care for antique oak timber?

Maintain timber surfaces by applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood and preserve the historic finish. Keep pieces away from direct heat sources and sudden temperature changes to prevent splitting in the solid oak planks.

How can I tell an eighteenth century bench from a later copy?

Examine the timber for tool marks, hand-cut peg joints, natural wear patterns and shrinkage consistent with age. Eighteenth century pieces display construction methods and patination developed through generations of continuous domestic service.
