What defines a platinum diamond drop?

A platinum diamond drop consists of a pendant or earring configuration where stones are suspended beneath a primary mounting using platinum as the main metal. These pieces rely on the structural strength of platinum to support intricate pierced work and dangling gemstone elements.

How do I date a drop pendant?

Dating relies on stylistic markers such as Edwardian garland motifs or Art Deco geometric symmetry, alongside the cut of the diamonds. Old-cut stones and specific platinum fabrication techniques point firmly to the early twentieth-century periods represented in the collection.

Can I wear these earrings daily?

These antique and vintage drops require mindful wear due to their delicate millegrain settings and fine articulated connections. Storing them securely and avoiding impact will preserve the original mountings and gemstone settings over time.

What gemstones accompany the diamonds?

Aquamarines, sapphires, emeralds, opals, pearls and tourmalines frequently appear alongside the diamonds in these drops. Coloured stones were chosen to provide contrast against the bright white surface of the platinum and white gold settings.
