How are these lamps powered?

Most examples arrive wired for modern electrical circuits, frequently utilising converted candle sockets or fitted lamp holders concealed within the original structure. Buyers should inspect the internal wiring and consult a qualified electrician to ensure safety compliance with contemporary domestic standards.

Can original shades be replaced?

Shades can be swapped to suit interior schemes, though many pieces retain custom fabric or silk additions designed to complement the proportions of the base. When altering shades, maintaining the correct scale relative to the gilt body preserves the visual balance of the pair.

How do I clean gilt metal?

Gilt surfaces require gentle dusting with a soft dry cloth to prevent abrasion of the delicate metallic layer. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or metal polishes that strip away gilding. Marble and onyx portions respond well to a lightly dampened cloth followed by immediate drying.

Are these pieces converted?

A large proportion started life as candlesticks, vases, or candelabra before receiving professional conversion into functional table lighting. Such adaptations are standard practice for antique lighting and rarely detract from the decorative merit of the matched pair.
