How are antique vases converted into lamps?

Conversion usually involves drilling a discreet hole through the base for wiring or routing the electrical cord through existing apertures. Metal collars and lamp holders are then secured to the top of the vessel. This method allows antique ceramics to serve modern lighting needs without altering the primary decorative body of the piece.

What periods do these lamps date from?

The selection includes pieces spanning from the late seventeenth century through the Victorian era and into the early twentieth century. Many items utilise earlier ceramic vessels mounted during the nineteenth century. Stylistic markers and mounting techniques help historians narrow down the date of both the ceramic body and the subsequent lamp conversion.

How do I care for a painted porcelain base?

Cleaning requires a soft, dry cloth to remove dust from the porcelain surface and any painted details. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials that could damage the enamel. Protecting the piece from direct sunlight and handling metal mounts carefully ensures the longevity of both the ceramic glaze and the gilding.

Are these lamps supplied with shades?

Some listings include period or complementary fabric and silk shades, while others offer the lamp base alone. Buyers often pair antique bases with custom shades to suit their interior scheme. Checking individual descriptions clarifies whether a shade is part of the sale.
