How do I hang a heavy framed painting safely?

Heavy works require secure wall fixings anchored directly into masonry or wall studs to support the combined weight of the canvas and dense wooden frame. Professional mirror and picture hanging hooks rated for the specific weight ensure the piece remains stable and level over time.

Are original frames always contemporary to the painting?

Frames are frequently replaced over centuries due to damage or changing domestic tastes. Finding a piece retaining its original gilded gesso mount is a distinct advantage. Examining the rebate and the fit at the back of the canvas helps determine if the pairing is original or a later match.

What lighting suits these dark oil paintings?

Traditional oil paintings benefit from controlled, indirect illumination that reveals the depth of dark backgrounds without generating excessive heat. LED picture lights mounted above the frame provide balanced illumination while protecting the pigments from UV degradation.
