What periods do these handles come from?

The pieces span the Georgian, Regency, and Victorian eras, with nineteenth-century examples dominating the selection. Earlier items from the eighteenth century appear alongside later nineteenth-century revivals. Stylistic shifts across these periods dictate the complexity of the casting and the specific motifs utilised by the makers.

How were these handles attached?

Door knobs and pulls typically relied on spindle mechanisms and threaded plates to secure them through timber panels. Smaller drawer pulls used rear-fixing posts and nuts. Surface-mounted items utilised matching brass screws driven through pre-drilled holes in the backplate.

Can I use antique door handles today?

Many door handles and knobs fit standard modern latches with minor adjustments to the spindle or fixings. Care must be taken with fragile materials like glass or crystal. Using them on interior doors provides an authentic period touch to a restoration project.
