What subjects do these paintings show?

The works depict a range of continental subjects including Venetian canals, French market squares, German waterways and rural farm views. These scenes record European towns and countryside through the distinct artistic movements of the mid-twentieth century.

How should I hang an oil painting?

Select a wall space away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture to protect both the canvas and the wood frame. Ensure proper fixings are used to support the weight of the stretcher and frame securely.

Are these works signed by artists?

Many examples feature original signatures left by the painter upon the canvas or lower corners. Some pieces remain attributed to specific schools or discovered as works by unknown makers from the period.

What framing materials are used?

Most canvases are presented in traditional wood surrounds, occasionally finished with gilt or ebonised treatments. These protective borders help define the artwork while suiting the aesthetic of mid-century interiors.
