What is a compactum wardrobe?

A compactum wardrobe is a fitted piece of furniture designed to incorporate multiple storage compartments, including hanging sections, linen slides, and drawers, into one unified carcase. These pieces emerged to provide comprehensive bedroom storage without requiring separate wardrobes and chests of drawers.

How do I care for mahogany furniture?

Mahogany furniture benefits from stable indoor humidity and protection from direct sunlight to prevent the timber from fading or drying out over time. Routine maintenance requires only dusting with a soft cloth and occasional application of appropriate natural wax to nourish the polished surface.

How can I date a mahogany press?

Dating relies on examining construction techniques, such as drawer dovetailing, timber thicknesses, internal secondary woods, and stylistic motifs like satinwood inlay or brass hardware. Georgian pieces display different proportions and architectural cornices compared to the heavier revival styles of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
