How do I hang a heavy Venetian glass mirror safely?

These pieces require sturdy wall fixings due to the combined weight of the wood backing and glass elements. Consult a professional framer or use heavy-duty mirror brackets suited to your wall type to distribute the load evenly.

What causes the dark spots on antique mirror plates?

Dark spots, known as foxing, occur when moisture slowly degrades the silver backing behind the glass over decades. This natural ageing process is typical in nineteenth-century and older silvered glass plates.

Are these mirrors suitable for bathrooms?

High humidity and moisture can accelerate damage to the delicate silvered backing and wooden frames. Dry living areas, hallways, and drawing rooms provide a safer environment for historic glass.

How should I clean an etched glass frame?

Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust from the glass and frame without applying excessive pressure. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that might seep behind the etched plates or damage the silvered glass and giltwood.
