How do I clean a heriz style carpet?

Routine maintenance requires gentle vacuuming without the rotating brush bar to protect the wool pile and fringes. Professional specialist cleaning remains essential every few years to remove embedded grit safely. Avoid household detergents or excessive water, which can damage the natural dyes and cotton foundations. Promptly blot liquid spills with a clean, dry white cloth without rubbing the fibres.

Where should I place a runner?

Hallway runners suit high-traffic transitional spaces like corridors, entryways, and wide landings. Their durable wool construction withstands daily footsteps while adding warmth and colour to plain floors. Ensure an appropriate underlay is placed beneath the runner to prevent slipping and reduce friction against the floorboards. This simple step extends the working life of the cotton foundation.

How can I tell a Heriz from a Karaja?

Heriz carpets typically feature large, bold geometric medallions and substantial room-sized formats. Their patterns emphasise architectural structure and grand scale. Karaja rugs generally appear in smaller formats, including runners and scatter sizes, with repeating geometric motifs or multiple smaller medallions arranged linearly down the field.

Are these carpets suitable for heavy foot traffic?

The robust knotting and heavy wool pile make these floor coverings exceptionally durable for busy living spaces. Their traditional village construction was originally intended for practical, everyday household use. Placing a quality rug underlay beneath the carpet cushions the wool fibres against hard flooring and prevents shifting. This protects the structure from premature wear over decades of use.
