How should I clean the glass?

Use a soft cloth dampened slightly with water or a mild glass cleaner. Apply the liquid to the cloth rather than directly onto the glass to prevent moisture seeping behind the frame. Avoid harsh chemicals that might damage the antique timber or the gilding on the surrounding frame.

Are these drawings original works?

The selection includes original hand-drawn pieces such as pen and ink sketches, pastels, and watercolours. Each artist applied their medium directly to the paper support. Check the individual listing details to confirm the specific medium used for each artwork.

Where should I hang the artwork?

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and damp environments to protect the paper and the gilt wood frame. Stable room temperatures prevent the wooden components from warping over time. Choose a wall space that receives indirect ambient light to best appreciate the fine details of the drawing.

How do I identify the period?

Examine the materials of the backing, the style of the handwriting on any signatures, and the construction techniques of the frame. Older pieces often utilise hand-carved wooden frames and heavier rag paper. Comparing the artistic style to known periods like the nineteenth century or the Edwardian era offers further clues.
