How do I identify a French Louis Philippe mirror?

Louis Philippe mirrors typically feature rounded top corners with a subtle classical moulding and minimal ornamentation. They often retain their original mercury glass plates and simple yet elegant giltwood frames.

What is foxed mirror glass?

Foxing refers to the mottled dark spots and speckles that develop on older mirror plates as the backing oxidises over time. This ageing process is characteristic of authentic antique mercury glass.

Are these frames heavy?

Constructed from solid wood, gesso, and heavy glass plates, these large frames possess substantial weight. Proper wall fixings into structural brick or stud work are essential for secure installation.
