What is a georgian wooden coaster used for?

These items held wine bottles, decanters, or cheese truckles, allowing hosts to pass refreshments down the table smoothly. The raised sides kept containers upright while the wheels protected polished dining surfaces from scratches and moisture rings.

Can I use these for modern wine bottles?

Many traditional pieces accommodate standard modern wine bottle dimensions, though unusually wide bottles may not fit. Checking the internal diameter of the base helps ensure your chosen bottle sits securely within the wooden walls.

How do I tell a cheese coaster from a wine coaster?

Cheese coasters typically feature an elongated or crescent shape designed to match the contour of a cheese truckle. Wine coasters are almost strictly circular to enclose individual bottles or decanters snugly.
