What furniture features Georgian mahogany columns?

These supports appear on architectural floor lamps, torcheres, tripod wine tables, and the corners of chests of drawers or side cabinets. They serve both structural and decorative purposes across various domestic forms. Makers integrated turned or carved shafts into tables and case pieces to evoke classical architecture within domestic interiors.

How do I identify a tilt top table column?

Tilt top tables feature a central turned column mounted onto a tripod base via a wooden or brass catch mechanism. The table top pivots vertically to store flat against the wall when not in use. Inspect the pivot block beneath the top to see how the column connects to the horizontal surface.

How do I care for mahogany column furniture?

Keep wooden pieces away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent timber splitting and fading of the mahogany grain. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply natural wax sparingly. Check the stability of central columns on tables periodically to ensure base joints remain secure.
