How do I install antique wall lights safely?

Most antique brass wall fixtures require mounting to a standard wall junction box by a qualified electrician. Wiring must be checked or renewed to meet current safety standards, particularly on pieces that have undergone previous conversions from gas.

Are these lights supplied with glass shades?

Some surviving examples retain their period glass shades or cut glass elements, while others are designed for bare bulbs. Listings specify whether glass components are included with the metal brackets.

Can I use modern bulbs in these fittings?

Standard modern lamp holders and low-wattage LED bulbs fit most converted fixtures once the internal wiring is updated. Consulting a professional ensures the historical sockets match contemporary electrical loads.

How do I distinguish Edwardian from Victorian brass lights?

Edwardian designs generally favour lighter proportions and refined neoclassical revival motifs compared to heavier Victorian counterparts. Stylistic crossover remains common because production dates often blur across the turn of the century.
