What periods do these artworks cover?

The pieces span from the seventeenth century through the nineteenth century and into the mid-twentieth century. Early examples include seventeenth-century Dutch and Italianate works, while the nineteenth century is heavily represented by regional schools and named artists. Later works extend into the nineteen-forties and mid-century impressionism. This broad chronology allows collectors to trace the evolution of European landscape painting across multiple eras.

What surfaces were used for these paintings?

Artists utilised canvas, wood panels and paper depending on the period and medium. Oil paintings frequently appear on stretched canvas or solid wood supports such as oak panels. Watercolours and drawings are executed on paper. Many oil paintings are paired with their original gilt wood frames.

Are the artworks signed by artists?

Several pieces feature signatures from the painter or carry attribution to specific continental schools and followers of master artists. Signatures help confirm the origin and authorship of the work. Other pieces remain attributed to unknown artists or continental schools of specific centuries based on stylistic evidence and framing.

How should I display a framed oil painting?

Hang the artwork on an interior wall away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture fluctuations to protect the canvas and wood panel. Ensure the wall fixings can safely support the weight of the framed piece. Keep the painting clear of direct heat sources to prevent cracking in the oil paint and gesso frame ornamentation.
