What periods do these handles represent?

The inventory spans seventeenth-century survivals through nineteenth-century Victorian and Meiji period examples. Items reflect both European hardware traditions and East Asian decorative metalwork.

How are cast bronze handles mounted?

Door furniture typically includes matching backplates or screw apertures designed for direct surface attachment. Heavier examples require secure anchoring to support their substantial metallic weight.

How do I maintain the surface patina?

Preserve the original finish by avoiding harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive polishing compounds. Gentle dusting with a dry cloth keeps the surface secure without stripping historic oxidation.

Are these items purely functional?

While utilitarian door fittings served daily domestic entryways, many pieces function as decorative grips on ewers, vases, and urns. Sculptural handles often depict mythological figures, beasts, or traditional architectural motifs.
