What is a brass fireplace screen used for?

These screens protect rooms from stray sparks and ash while enclosing the hearth when the fire is not active. They also serve a decorative purpose, softening the dark opening of a fireplace during warmer months.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the width and height of your fireplace opening to ensure the screen covers the space adequately. Consider whether a flat panel or a folding design suits the hearth dimensions and surrounding floor space.

Are folding fan screens fragile?

Folding fan screens operate with pivoting metal blades that require gentle handling during expansion and closure. The individual segments rely on secure pins, so careful movement prevents strain on the joints.

How do I clean brass and wire mesh?

Dust the wire mesh and brass surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent accumulation. Avoid harsh chemical abrasives that can strip the original finish or damage delicate patinas on older metalwork.
