What is a bumper automatic?

A bumper automatic is an early self-winding mechanical movement where an internal weight swings through an arc, striking springs to tension the mainspring. This movement type produces a perceptible tap against the wrist during normal activity, distinguishing it from later full-rotor automatic watches.

How do I wind a manual watch?

To wind a manual watch, turn the crown gently between your thumb and forefinger in a clockwise direction until resistance is felt. Care should be taken not to force the crown past the point of resistance, as over-winding can damage the internal mainspring.

What defines a military issue watch?

Military issue watches were produced to strict government specifications for armed forces personnel, often featuring specialised caseback engravings and high-contrast dials. These pieces prioritize legibility and robust durability under demanding field conditions over decorative luxury styling.

How do acrylic crystals age?

Acrylic crystals develop minor surface hairline scratches over years of regular use due to the relative softness of the material. These marks can typically be buffed out using specialised polishing pastes to restore clarity to the dial view.
