How do I choose the right size chandelier?

Selecting the correct scale involves measuring the room's dimensions and ensuring adequate clearance between the floor and the lowest point of the fixture. Larger spaces accommodate multi-tiered chandeliers with numerous arms. Smaller rooms or hallways benefit from compact pendant lights or wall-mounted sconces that maintain proper proportions within the interior.

Can these antique fixtures be rewired?

Most vintage and antique lighting requires modern electrical wiring to comply with current safety standards and regulations. Professional electricians can safely adapt the internal channels for contemporary bulbs. Preserving the original sockets and exterior hardware ensures the historic character remains intact while the functionality is updated for daily use.

What is the difference between silver gilt and silver plate?

Silver gilt involves applying precious silver leaf to a bronze or metal base, creating a warm and rich reflective surface. Silver plating uses an electrolytic or mechanical process to bond a layer of silver onto a base metal like brass. Both methods were utilised to achieve a luxurious finish without the prohibitive weight and cost of solid silver.
