How do I care for antique red leather?

Clean the leather gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Apply a specialist leather conditioner periodically to keep the material supple and prevent drying. Avoid placing leather chairs near direct heat sources or in strong sunlight, as this causes fading and cracking. Treat the surface with care to preserve the original finish.

Can I mix these chairs with modern tables?

Yes, pairing antique armchairs with a contemporary table creates a striking contrast in a dining room or study. The rich tones of mahogany and oak anchor the modern setting. Ensure the seat heights align comfortably with your table clearance. A cohesive colour scheme helps bridge different design eras.

What is the difference between Victorian and Edwardian sets?

Victorian sets generally feature heavier proportions, darker woods, and more elaborate carved details. Upholstery is often deep-buttoned and robust. Edwardian sets tend to be lighter in form, reflecting a shift towards airier drawing-room aesthetics. Woods remain traditional, but the overall silhouettes are simpler.

How do I identify a matched salon suite?

A matched suite shares identical wood turning, fabric types, and decorative motifs across the settee and armchairs. Every piece is constructed to form a single decorative scheme. Look for consistent wear patterns and matching hardware across all items. Discrepancies in timber colour or carving depth suggest pieces have been paired together later.
