A chevet is a small bedside cabinet or table designed to stand next to a bed for holding personal items and lighting. These pieces typically feature enclosed cupboard space or a drawer, combining practical bedside storage with decorative French styling.

Where were these pieces made?

The majority of these cabinets originate from French workshops spanning the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. French makers heavily influenced the styles seen here, ranging from Empire and Louis Philippe designs to later revival periods.

How do I use a marble top?

Marble top bedside cabinets provide a durable, heat-resistant surface that originally served to hold water pitchers and washbasins. In modern settings, the stone surface safely accommodates drinking glasses, bedside lamps, and decorative accessories without risk of water rings.

How do I date these cabinets?

Dating relies on identifying stylistic markers, construction methods, and material combinations recorded within each piece. Regency and Empire examples display classical proportions and restrained ormolu, while later twentieth-century pieces often reflect simplified revival aesthetics.
