Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French country log basket dates from the late 19th century around 1890 and is constructed from solid oak with a warm brown timber finish. The rectangular wooden body features open vertical slats on all four sides, a central interior divider running across the top frame, and four straight tapered legs supporting the elevated container. Natural signs of age appear across the aged wooden surfaces and structural joins throughout the piece. Measuring 67 cm high, 90 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, this item provides practical storage capacity for firewood. Positioned beside a fireplace hearth in a living room, study, or traditional hallway, the log basket keeps fuel within reach while adding rustic farmhouse style to the interior. The open slatted design allows air circulation around stacked logs, and the internal partition helps organise different sizes of firewood or kindling. Everyday domestic use suits the robust construction, making it both a decorative and functional accessory for traditional and rustic living spaces.

FAQs

Historically used in rural French homes, these raised wooden bins stored firewood near hearths, keeping timber elevated off cold floors and allowing air circulation to keep logs dry.

Traditional log stores are crafted from durable dense hardwoods such as oak or chestnut, utilising slatted timber framing to maximize airflow and traditional joinery for stability under heavy loads.

Authentic pieces display natural wear from timber handling, historic wax or oil finishes, hand-cut slats, and traditional mortise and tenon joinery rather than modern metal fixings.

Position the basket adjacent to a log burner or fireplace hearth, filled with stacked birch logs, or utilise it as open storage for rolled blankets or publications.

Maintain the wood by dusting with a dry brush, keeping it elevated away from excessive dampness, and applying clear beeswax nourishers periodically to protect the timber surface.
