This 18th century Georgian oak lowboy displays a warm brown timber finish and stands upon four square tapering legs. The piece holds an arrangement of four drawers, comprising a single wide top drawer flanked by two smaller lower drawers, complete with swan-neck brass handles and a central brass escutcheon. Below the drawers runs an ornate pierced fretwork apron. The lowboy measures 72 cm high, 87 cm wide, and 47 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a stairway landing or hallway, this side table provides practical surface space and storage. The traditional restoration work preserves the historical character of the furniture while ensuring structural stability for daily residential use.

A lowboy is a small table fitted with drawers, originally popularised in the 18th century across Britain as a dressing table, side table, or writing desk.

These pieces were traditionally constructed from solid oak timber, incorporating hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass swan-neck handles, and carved ornamental aprons.

Authentic period examples feature hand-planed timber surfaces, uneven drawer linings, historic iron or brass lock escutcheons, and natural surface patination around areas of frequent use.

Position the piece in an entryway or landing, topped with a modern table lamp and ceramic vessels to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber grain and shield the historic surface.
