This George IV mahogany corner washstand dates to the nineteenth century, around 1830. The piece displays a warm brown timber colour with rich figuring throughout, complemented by fine boxwood string inlay on the drawer fronts and a shaped splashback. The superstructure includes a small raised corner shelf and a top tier with circular apertures, positioned above an open middle shelf. Three drawer compartments across the middle feature decorative brass knobs, comprising a central working drawer flanked by two dummy drawers. The stand rests on slender, gently splayed legs connected by a shaped lower shelf. Measuring 108 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 41 cm deep, the unit fits neatly into an empty corner of a bedroom, bathroom, or living area to hold toiletries, plants, or decorative items.

George IV corner washstands are compact, space-saving pieces of furniture popular in British interiors during the 1820s, designed specifically to hold a wash basin and water pitcher prior to the widespread adoption of modern indoor plumbing.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often detailed with fine boxwood inlay, stringing, brass drawer hardware, and ceramic wash inserts.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints, period-appropriate drawer pulls, delicate splayed legs, shaped splashbacks, and natural age-related wear around the basin aperture.

An antique corner washstand can be repurposed as a corner display stand for indoor greenery, utilised as an occasional side table, or styled with decorative ceramics in a hallway or bedroom.

To preserve the timber and polish, place the washstand away from direct sunlight and heat sources, clean spills immediately, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain annually.
