Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The piece is upholstered in a vintage country house fabric featuring an olive green background with pink, blue and cream floral motifs, complemented by a decorative fringe trim and a scroll backrest. Brass hinges allow the hinged lid to reverse to either side, revealing a storage base that retains its original horsehair stuffing. The daybed is raised on castors. Measuring 73.5 cm in height, 152.5 cm in width with the arm up, and 183 cm in depth, this item serves as a versatile seating and resting option within an English Country House interior. It fits comfortably in a living room, study or bedroom as a traditional daybed or chaise longue, offering an authentic period piece with functional storage capacity for everyday use.

FAQs

A Victorian box ottoman daybed is a multifunctional piece of upholstered furniture introduced in the 19th century, serving as both a reclining lounge seat and a spacious storage trunk accessed by lifting the hinged top seat.

These pieces were typically constructed with solid timber internal frames, such as pine or beech, upholstered with heavy natural fabrics including wool tapestry, chintz, or damask, and finished with braided fringe trim.

Authentic 19th-century examples feature hand-tied coil springs, horsehair padding, original brass hinges or catches, and heavy timber framing that displays age-appropriate wear inside the storage compartment.

Position the daybed along a main wall in a sitting room, morning room, or bedroom, pairing patterned upholstery with neutral backdrop tones and natural wood textures.

Vacuum fabric upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, keep the piece away from direct sunlight to avoid fading, and spot clean immediately using a dry, clean cloth.
