Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French occasional tables featuring marble tops and brass galleries gained significant popularity during the 19th century, particularly within Parisian salons and boudoirs. These compact pieces were designed for versatility, serving as stands for lamps, decorative objects, or serving tea.

Authentic pieces typically utilise solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or fruitwood, often accented with hand-turned legs and dovetail joinery in the drawers. The tops feature fitted slabs of natural marble, frequently surrounded by pierced brass galleries and cast metal mounts.

Authenticity is determined by examining the construction methods, such as hand-cut joinery, the natural ageing of the timber, and the weight and veining of the genuine marble insert. Hand-chased brass fixtures and period-appropriate hardware also provide reliable indicators of age.

This piece works exceptionally well as a bedside table, a compact lamp table in a living room, or an accent piece in a hallway. Pairing the classic wood and marble textures with contemporary minimalist decor creates a sophisticated balance between old and new.

Protect the marble surface from acidic liquids like wine or citrus to prevent staining, using coasters and mats. Clean the wood using a soft, dry cloth and occasionally nourish the timber with appropriate beeswax, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
