Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Aesthetic Movement bedroom suite comprises an oak washstand and a matching dressing table in a light brown timber finish. The washstand has a white marble top, a raised gallery set with polychrome ceramic tiles by Maw and Co, and two frieze drawers fitted with stylised brass drop handles. Its base has four turned vertical supports united by double stretchers and small wheel castors. The companion dressing table holds a central tilting mirror on architectural uprights, flanked by two small banks of matching drawers above a rectangular top and two frieze drawers with identical hardware. Both pieces rest on turned uprights with stretchers and castors. The dressing table stands 159 cm high, 142 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. Homeowners place these Victorian Gothic items in a bedroom as a functional washing station and dressing table, pairing them with period furnishings.

FAQs

Originating in the late 19th century, Aesthetic Movement furniture emphasised artistic quality, geometric symmetry, turned wood details, and decorative elements such as floral ceramic tiles and incised ornamentation.

Pieces from this era commonly featured native hardwoods such as ash, oak, and satinwood, often paired with marble tops, inset ceramic tiles, and cast brass handles.

Authentic examples display late 19th-century construction techniques, such as hand-dovetailed drawers, original castors, turned support stretchers, and Anglo-Japanese inspired tile motifs.

These versatile pieces can be styled in modern bedrooms as functional vanities or repurposed in spacious hallways and bathrooms as statement console surfaces.

Clean timber surfaces with a soft cloth and apply beeswax periodically; clean marble tops using pH-neutral stone cleaners to prevent staining or etching of the surface.
