Description

A beautiful example of what can be done with patience, expertise and a lot of practice. This is a copy of a 19th century Heriz, made in the German factory of Teftset circa 1940. They have faithfully copied the design and colours or a Persian carpet with very high quality wool. One of the nicest I have seen and in perfect condition. These are machine made rugs that nevertheless have a great deal of charm and individual qualities. I have rarely seen the same design copied twice, they took inspiration from allover the world. An actual 19th century Heriz with these colours and design would 3 or 4 times the price.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An antique teftset carpet is a handknotted floor covering originating from traditional weaving centres, characterised by distinctive geometric motifs and rich vegetable dyes.

These pieces are typically constructed using hand-spun wool for the pile and foundation, knotted by hand on vertical looms and dyed using natural plant and mineral pigments.

Authentic pieces display irregular knotting visible on the reverse, natural variations in colour known as abrash, and wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

An antique carpet can anchor a modern room by providing textural contrast, grounding neutral furniture, and adding historical depth to minimalist or transitional spaces.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional washing by a specialist every few years, and keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
