Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Jacobean revival furniture from the 1920s typically draws inspiration from 17th-century designs, featuring dark woods, sturdy construction, and characteristic turning work such as barley twist legs.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from solid oak or quarter-sawn oak, utilising traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon, often enhanced with carved or turned wooden details.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, natural timber ageing, traditional hardware if present, and characteristic surface wear consistent with decades of use rather than artificial distress.

A multi-tiered table functions well as a compact lamp stand or bedside unit, offering additional shelving for books and decorative objects while adding warmth and historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and clean periodically with a soft, dry cloth or a quality beeswax polish.
