Hoshiarpur furniture originated in the Punjab region of India during the late 19th century, characterised by intricate wood carving and delicate brass or bone inlay work created for the British colonial market.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as sheesham (Indian rosewood) or teak, heavily embellished with hand-carved openwork panels and inlaid brass wire or etched bone motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved irregularity, traditional joinery methods, aged patination on the wood, and meticulous metal or bone inlay work rather than modern machine stamping or synthetic adhesives.

Pair the highly textured piece with minimalist, modern upholstery to let the intricate geometric patterns stand out as a focal point without overwhelming the room.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a microcrystalline wax sparingly to nourish the wood and protect the metal inlay without causing moisture damage.
