This nineteenth-century Queen Anne style lowboy is made from walnut with a warm brown timber finish and stands at 72 cm high, 68 cm wide, and 43.5 cm deep. The piece has a distinct drawer configuration consisting of one long upper drawer above three smaller drawers, fitted with matching brass drop handles. The case rests on cabriole legs ending in pad feet beneath a shaped apron along the lower edge. The surfaces show age-related wear and tear consistent with a long history of use. In a contemporary home, this table works well beside the front door as a useful surface for dropping keys and post, or in a hallway or bedroom for general display and storage. The compact footprint makes it straightforward to place in smaller rooms and corridors while providing a practical surface area and four accessible compartments.

A lowboy is a small table with drawers, originally created in the eighteenth century to serve as a dressing table or side table. It typically features a low height, a shaped lower apron, and distinctive cabriole legs.

Traditional lowboys were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or mahogany. Construction included hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and cast brass drop handles or bail handles.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand craftsmanship, such as slightly irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, tool marks on unpolished rear panels, and natural wood shrinkage. The drawer linings often show age-appropriate wear and original brass fixings.

An antique lowboy functions effectively as a hallway console table, a bedside table, or an occasional side table in a living room. Pairing it with contemporary table lamps or modern artwork creates a balanced contrast between historic wood and modern decor.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, wiping in the direction of the wood grain, and position the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat radiators.
