Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Afshar rugs are hand-knotted textiles crafted by the Afshar tribe, historically located in southeast Iran around the Kerman province. These rugs are recognised for their geometric patterns, central medallions, stylized floral or animal motifs, and rich colour palettes featuring deep reds and blues.

Traditionally, Afshar rugs feature a pure wool pile hand-knotted onto either a wool or cotton warp and weft foundation. The wool is locally sourced and coloured using traditional vegetable and natural dyes, woven using symmetrical or asymmetrical knots to create a dense pile.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-bound selvedges, natural variations in dye colours known as abrash, and slight geometric irregularities in the weave pattern. Inspecting the underside reveals visible hand-knotted stitches and a flexible foundation characteristic of nomadic tribal craftsmanship.

A hand-woven tribal rug serves as an anchor in a room scheme, adding rich texture and historical depth beneath modern minimalist furniture or paired alongside traditional timber pieces. The warm tones complement both neutral colour palettes and rich accent hues in living or dining spaces.

Regular vacuuming using a suction-only attachment prevents grit from grinding down the wool fibres. Promptly blotting spills with clean water, rotating the rug annually to ensure even wear, and using a high-quality rug pad will extend the lifespan of the textile.
