Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A folk art corner bench is an L-shaped wooden seating unit historically crafted in rural European regions during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These pieces were built to fit into room corners to maximise space and were traditionally decorated with hand-painted polychrome patterns.

Traditional folk art benches were constructed primarily from local softwoods such as pine or spruce using mortise and tenon joinery. The decorative finishes were applied using mineral-based pigments mixed with milk protein, egg tempera, or oil binders.

Authentic pieces display natural surface wear, paint abrasion along edges, and patinated wood in areas of frequent contact. Evidence of hand-planed timber, historic joinery methods, and layered pigment wear help confirm age and authenticity.

These benches function effectively around a dining table in a breakfast nook or kitchen space. They can also be integrated into entryways, boot rooms, or hallways to provide functional seating while introducing graphic colour and pattern.

Maintenance involves regular dusting with a dry, soft cloth and avoiding abrasive cleaning agents or excessive moisture. Stabilising indoor humidity levels prevents the wood from expanding or contracting, protecting the original paint layer from flaking.
