We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Putti, depicting chubby male children or cherubs, became popular during the Renaissance and saw a major revival in 19th-century Neoclassical and Academic art. They were frequently depicted in allegorical scenes representing nature, the seasons, or classical mythology to bring a playful yet classical motif into interior decoration.

These sculptures were typically cast in solid or hollow bronze using the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting method. After casting, metalworkers applied hand-chasing to refine details and chemically patinated the surface to produce rich brown tones, often mounting the finished figures onto polished marble or gilt-bronze bases.

Authentic period bronzes display precise, hand-chased surface details in areas like hair, drapery, and natural elements. Look for evidence of historic hand-finishing, natural wear to the patina on raised surfaces, period-appropriate threading on assembly bolts underneath, and substantial weight consistent with cast bronze.

Classical bronzes work well as focal points on a fireplace mantelpiece, flanked by modern artwork or minimalist decor to create visual balance. Placing a symmetrical pair on a console table or within a structured bookshelf introduces texture, historical depth, and rich patinated metallic tones to modern rooms.

Dust the bronzes regularly with a soft, dry camel-hair brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that can damage the original patina. Apply a thin coat of specialized microcrystalline wax annually to protect the metal from oxidisation, and wipe marble bases gently with a damp cloth.
