We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These sculptures depict mythological scenes associated with Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, frequently featuring jovial putti or cherubs adorned with grapevine motifs, goblets, and draped textiles. Popularised during the Neoclassical and 19th-century European revival periods, these bronzes draw direct inspiration from Classical antiquity and Renaissance art.

Most 19th-century bronzes were produced using the lost-wax or sand-casting methods, employing an alloy predominantly made of copper, tin, and zinc. The cast sculptures were meticulously hand-chased to refine surface detail and treated with chemical patination before being mounted onto marble or bronze plinths.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display crisp hand-chased surface details, natural patination wear consistent with age, and high structural density. Look for historical foundry marks or signatures, seamlessly chased seam lines, and original underside mounting hardware joining the bronze to its stone base.

A dark patinated bronze sculpture offers rich visual contrast when positioned on a minimalist sideboard, console table, or within an architectural bookcase. Juxtaposing classical figural motifs against contemporary backdrops such as matte plaster, honed stone, or natural timber accentuates the sculptures silhouette.

Dust the bronze surface regularly using a soft microfibre cloth or a clean, dry natural-bristle brush to reach detailed crevices. Avoid chemical solvents and water; instead, maintain the original patina by applying a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax annually and buffing gently.
