Circa 1890
Beautifully modelled in the classical taste, the figures display excellent attention to detail, with rich, dark brown patination highlighting the quality of the casting and finely chased surface.
Cupid is portrayed carrying his quiver while standing upon a naturalistic base, his wings finely detailed and his pose full of movement and character. Psyche is depicted in a graceful, animated pose, drapery flowing elegantly around her figure, complementing Cupid to create a harmonious decorative pair.
Each bronze stands on its original circular Sienna marble nases with a decorative bronze beaded border, providing an attractive contrast to the deep patination of the figures.
Inspired by the enduring classical love story of Cupid and Psyche.
Condition:
Very good antique condition with an attractive, even patina. The marble bases are in good order with only minor age-related wear consistent with their age.
