Twin-fusee, 5 Pillar, Mahogany Bracket Clock. Visible Pendulum.

19th century
For Sale by Masons Antiques
Description

A very majestic and elegant bracket/mantel clock in a beautifully figured mahogany case with an equally impressive movement.

Uniquely, the pendulum can be seen working through a glazed aperture to the underside of the dial. The case retains it's original French-polished case with a lovely, age-related patina. It has a stepped, canted top with pineapple finial. To the front are applied rosettes and to the sides are lions head carrying handles and a glazed rear door. It stands on brass bun feet.

The 8" white convex dial has black Roman numerals and fine cut "birds beak" hands. It has a cast brass bezel.

The 8 day, twin-fusee, 5 pillar movement strikes the hours on a bell with a crisp resonating chime. It has just been fully overhauled by our BHI registered horologist

and carries our usual 12mths full parts and labour guarantee.

The brass, London style pendulum can be seen working from the front of the clock.

An out and out quality clock

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A twin-fusee bracket clock is a spring-driven clock featuring two fusee cones, which balance the power distribution of the mainspring to maintain accurate timekeeping and power an striking mechanism.

These clocks were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as flame mahogany or walnut veneers over oak frames, with brass embellishments, glass apertures, and enamelled or painted metal dials.

Authentic pieces generally display period features including cast brass handles or finials, flame mahogany veneers, hand-engraved backplates, five-pillar movements, and painted dials with Roman numerals.

Position the clock on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or study desk to act as a anchor piece alongside contemporary artwork or traditional leather-bound volumes.

Keep the clock in a temperature-controlled environment away from direct heat sources, wind the mechanism regularly using the correct key, and have the internal movement serviced by a horologist every five to seven years.
