Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fusee bracket clock is a traditional English timekeeping instrument housing a mechanical movement driven by a cone-shaped pulley system called a fusee, which evens out the power delivery as the mainspring unwinds. Originally designed in the 17th century to sit on dedicated wall brackets or tables, these clocks became staples of 19th-century domestic interiors.

Nineteenth-century English bracket clocks were typically crafted using flame mahogany, walnut, or rosewood veneers over solid wood carcasses, paired with brass movements, glass bezels, and enamelled or painted dials.

Authentic 19th-century bracket clocks feature hand-cut gears, heavy brass movements with fusee mechanisms, hand-painted or enamelled dials, and cast brass hardware. Signs of genuine age include natural patina, slight wear around the winding arbours, and original movement keys.

Position an antique bracket clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece or atop a dark wood sideboard to create an architectural focal point. Contrast its rich mahogany tones against neutral walls, pairing it with modern artwork or understated glass vases.

Keep the mahogany case away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent drying or fading, wiping it occasionally with a soft cloth and beeswax polish. Ensure the mechanical movement is serviced every five to seven years by a professional horologist to maintain accurate timekeeping.
