Antique Single Fusee Drum Head Regency Mantel Clock with Brass Inlay

19th century
Description

Antique Single Fusee Drum Head Regency Mantel Clock With Brass Inlay.

This wonderful regency mantel clock has a “drum head” style case with a fantastic rich colour. The “drum” section at the top leads to the square base of the case which has a lovely beaded moulding to the top. The front of the case then has beautiful scrolling brass inlay with floral designs and two large classical looking fish. The bottom of the case is then stepped out with further brass inlay to the bottom and a lovely turned wooden foot to each corner.

The dial is then painted and set out in black roman numerals with a thin ring to the outside marking the minutes. The dial then has a domed protective glass set into a brass bezel. Finally the dial is finished by two lovely, shaped hands.

The movement is then wound from the front and accessed via the door at the back, which comes with its working lock and key. The movement ticks away as it should and comes complete with winding key and pendulum which can be fully regulated. The movement is also a very high quality single fusee example which is almost never seen in beautiful regency clocks such as this.

Would make an excellent addition to any collection or home.

It measures approximately:

- 15” / 38cm Tall.

- 13.5” / 34.25cm Wide.

- 6.5” / 16.5cm Deep.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency drumhead clock features a prominent circular movement casing reminiscent of a drum head, mounted above a rectangular or stepped plinth base, characteristic of early 19th-century British timepieces.

These clocks are generally constructed with hardwood cases such as rosewood or mahogany, brass inlay detailing, cast brass bezels, and mechanical brass movements powered by a fusee cone and chain assembly.

Authentic pieces feature a tapered cone with a chain winding mechanism visible within the movement, heavy cast components, hand-engraved dial details, and traditional key-wound winding arbors.

Place the clock as a focal point on a fireplace mantel, sideboard top, or library shelving unit alongside minimalist glass or brass accents to complement the historic wood tones.

Keep the timber dry and positioned away from direct heat sources. Dust the wood casing with a microfibre cloth and apply neutral microcrystalline wax occasionally while leaving the movement servicing to a professional horologist.
